The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) invites the submission of abstracts for Oral and Poster sessions as well as State-of-the-Art Symposia to be considered for presentation at the WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium.
 
The WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium “A Gender Diverse World in Global Unity will be held at the EPIC SANA Lisboa in Lisbon, PortugalSeptember 25-30, 2024 (Pre-Courses: September 25-26, 2024; Scientific Sessions: September 26-30, 2024.) We look forward to receiving your submission. The Symposium will be presented in both live and virtual formats, giving attendees multiple viewing options.
 
The WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium will be led by WPATH President Dr. Marci Bowers and Scientific Co-Chairs Dr. Müjde Özer and Dr. Thomas Satterwhite.
 
The WPATH 2024 Steering Committee and the WPATH Board of Directors will schedule a program that will offer a great educational experience with a variety of viewing options. Our goal remains the same; to promote evidence-based care, education, research, public policy, and respect in transgender health.
 
The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 15, 2024 at 11:59pm US Eastern Time (GMT-4).

Pre-courses will be held on Wednesday, September 25 and Thursday, September 26, 2024. Opening session will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 26, and the main conference sessions will be held from Friday, September 27 through Monday, September 30, 2024.

Submission Categories for Abstracts/State-of-the-Art Symposium
All submissions must be submitted in one of the following categories; please choose the most appropriate for your submission (listed alphabetically). We welcome submissions from all professionals working in transgender health, including but not limited to researchers, nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, social scientists, voice and speech therapists, physical therapists, and more.

Oral  and Poster Abstract Guidelines
The recommended abstract length is between 385 and 500 words, excluding the title and authors' names. Abstract titles should be descriptive (200 characters or less). If you wish to submit images with your abstract, images must be smaller than 525 x 343 pixels. Files must be less than 50MB. Allowed file types: png, gif, jpg, jpeg. Up to 2 image uploads are allowed.
 
Only the correspondent that is entered as such in the submission, will receive an email message confirming the receipt of the abstract. Correspondents will need to notify their co-authors that the confirmation was received.
 
Oral and Poster abstract submissions must be submitted with the following 6 components:
  1. Introduction/Background
  2. Specific Aim(s)
  3. Materials and Methods
  4. Results
  5. Conclusions
  6. 2 Questions with Multiple Choice Answers*
    1. Answers should include (1 Correct, 3 Incorrect) to allow for the submission to be accredited.
    2. These questions should be easily answered by anyone who is viewing the content.
    3. You will be required to enter these questions before your application is considered complete.  
 
State-of-the-Art Symposia Guidelines
State-of-the-Art Symposia should include cutting edge research, cross-cultural approaches, as well as interdisciplinary approaches in the submission categories. The required length of the State-of-the-Art symposia submission description is up to 500 words. The time allotted for the State-of-the-Art symposia will be 75 minutes. Only submissions that have 3-5 presenters will be considered. Preference will be given to submissions that feature diverse speakers across disciplines, locations, and experiences.
 
State-of-the-Art Symposia submissions must be submitted with the following 5 components:
  1. Statement of Significance (Why this topic is important)
    1. Please include how the symposia fit into one, some, or all of the following:
      1. Cutting Edge Research
      2. Cross-Cultural and Intersectional Approaches
      3. Interdisciplinary Approaches
  2. Three Learning Objectives
  3. Method to Achieve Learning Objectives
  4. 6 Questions with Multiple Choice Answers*
    1. Answers should include (1 Correct, 3 Incorrect) to allow the submission to be accredited.
    2. These questions should be easily answered by anyone who is viewing the content.
    3. You will be required to enter these questions before your application is considered complete.
  5. Describe how the qualifications of each presenter are appropriate to meet the objectives of this symposium .  (Limit of 1000 words)
 
*Please note that Multiple Choice Questions are required for Continuing Education Accreditation.
 
Procedures and Deadlines
  • All submissions must be received by Monday, April 15, 2024 at 11:59pm US Eastern Time (GMT-4). Accepted speakers will be notified by June 19, 2024.
  • Disclosures for ALL authors/co-authors are required within the submission form, as are their institutions, city, state, country, etc.
  • Abstracts are reviewed and approved for inclusion in the program by the WPATH 2024 Abstract Review Committee, the WPATH 2024 Steering Committee, and the WPATH Board of Directors.
  • ALL presenting authors are required to register/pay for their attendance at the meeting (full meeting in-person registration, based on your membership status).
  • Complete instructions for presentations will be provided with your notification of acceptance.

WPATH is excited to launch the Steering Committee for the WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium, being held at the EPIC SANA Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal, September 25-30, 2024. The WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium will be led by WPATH President Dr. Marci Bowers and Scientific Co-Chairs Dr. Müjde Özer and Dr. Thomas Satterwhite.
 
If you are interested in applying for the WPATH 2024 Scientific Steering Committee and participating in steering the science, education, and focus of the conference, please complete the application linked below. The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 11:59pm US Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5).
 
 
WPATH members who have paid dues in 2023 and 2024 and who have attended at least two WPATH/EPATH/USPATH conferences are eligible.
 
We will seek to include members who have diverse areas of expertise, experience and identity. We encourage our colleagues from Portugal and surrounding areas to apply.
 
Participation in regular Committee meetings is essential; the Committee will meet monthly, and at least twice a month as we get closer to the Symposium.
 
If you are not selected for the steering committee, please indicate your interest to participate as a member of the abstract review committee – an integral part of a successful scientific symposium.
