WPATH Observes Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) - November 20, 2022
Today, November 20, 2022, marks The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost due to anti-transgender violence and discrimination.
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith in 1999, as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman of color who was killed in 1998. This day provides space for transgender communities and allies to raise awareness of the threat of violence faced by transgender and gender diverse people around the world, especially transgender and gender diverse people of color.
Today, and every day, WPATH honors the memory of all transgender and gender diverse people who have lost their lives due to anti-transgender violence. WPATH envisions a world wherein people of all gender identities and gender expressions have access to evidence-based healthcare, social services, justice, and equality.
