Dear USPATH Members,

Our colleagues at the National Center for Transgender Equality are on the verge of opening up the 2022 US Trans Survey. This is the largest survey of trans and gender diverse (TGD) individuals in the US, which provides extensive insight in to the lived experience of TGD folks across the country related to topics including identity, socioeconomic and employment status, family and faith, harassment and violence, and experiences in health care and mental health, school, the military, and prison systems. This information is vital to understanding social determinants in health and how these impact barriers to care, gaps in social services, discrimination, and resilience.

Please do your part to promote this important survey!

The US Trans Survey in 2011 represented 7,500 individuals, while the 2015 US Trans Survey expanded that reach to nearly 28,000 individuals. The goal for 2022 is to outdo these numbers and hear from as many trans and gender diverse folks as possible to share their experiences.  This data directly impacts policy, health coverage, and creation of social services based on the needs identified.

Spread the word to ensure TGD individuals in your community know about and have access to taking the survey.

It is vital that ALL individuals have access — consider how to best include people of color, older people, folks living in rural communities, immigrants, Spanish speakers, and those living with HIV in your recruitment efforts.

What you can do:

  • Recruit.  Poster your health center, hand out palm cards, outreach community in your area with emails, phone calls, and community events.
  • Provide access to computers and the internet.  Make space at office visits at your health center for patients and clients to access computers, tablets, and internet.  Consider partnering with libraries, community centers, and employers to provide access to technology.

Please use the links below for posters and palm cards to use at your institutions to promote the 2022 USTS!  You can also find out more information at U.S. Trans Survey.
