WPATH is pleased to share the following news articles regarding the Bell v Tavistock ruling that reverses a 2020 ruling in the case.
From the BBC - Ruling limiting under-16s puberty blockers overturned
Under-16s can take puberty blockers without parental consent, the Court of Appeal has ruled.
The appeal was brought by the Tavistock Trust, which runs the UK's only youth gender identity clinic. The decision reverses a 2020 ruling that under-16s lacked capacity to give informed consent to the treatment, which delays the onset of puberty. The original case was brought by Keira Bell, who says the clinic should have challenged her more over transitioning.
From the Guardian - Appeal court overturns UK puberty blockers ruling for under-16s
Tavistock and Portman NHS foundation trust wins challenge over case brought by Keira Bell last year.
The court of appeal has overturned a controversial judgment that children under the age of 16 considering gender reassignment are unlikely to be mature enough to give informed consent to be prescribed puberty-blocking drugs.
