Dr. VinTangpricha took office as WPATH's President on November 6th, 2018, at our biennial scientific symposium in Buenos Aires. Important Court Victory for a Transgender Prisoner...
Our 2018 Distinguished Scientific Achievement award winner, Dr. George Brown, gave a very moving talk at our Buenos Aires meeting in which he described the evolution of his career working with transgender people as a psychiatrist, first in the military, and through the Veterans Administration, as well as advocating for humane and respectful treatment of transgender people in prison. Last week he informed us of yet another a court victory in which he served as an expert witness, in the case of Strawberry Hampton. George wrote, "I am pleased to report that this is the first time, at the tip of the legal spear, that we have successfully effected a move from a male prison to a female prison with no requirement for SRS. This is an important case in this regard, as this situation applies to hundreds of TG inmates across the country. The case is not over, as noted in the article [see the link below], but our efforts to get appropriate housing, based on gender identity and not birth sex anatomy, is a huge victory." George has been involved with this case for over a year.
