WPATH invites your nominations for the following prestigious awards to be presented at the WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium in Lisbon, Portugal, being held September 25-30, 2024. 

  • WPATH Lifetime Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award
  • WPATH Lifetime Distinguished Service Award
  • WPATH Distinguished Advocacy Award
  • WPATH Distinguished Education Award
  • WPATH Outstanding Student Contribution Award

Nominations Must Be Received by May 31, 2024 at 11:59pm US Eastern Time.

Award Descriptions:
WPATH Lifetime Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award
Description: This is an award for a senior researcher in our field who has made an important contribution to advancing the knowledge and quality of care in transgender health. This award is given to a WPATH member and considers their entire body of research over the course of their career.
 
WPATH Lifetime Distinguished Service Award
Description: This is an award to honor a senior WPATH member who has made a significant contribution to the society and transgender health over the course of their career.


WPATH Distinguished Advocacy Award
Description: This is an award to honor an individual or group who has/have contributed significantly to the promotion of transgender health and rights through advocacy work. This may be presented as two separate awards, and the awardees do not need to be WPATH members.


WPATH Distinguished Education Award
Description: This is an award to honor an individual or group who has/have contributed significantly to the promotion of transgender health and rights through education. This may be presented as two separate awards, and the awardees do not need to be WPATH members.
 
WPATH Outstanding Student Contribution Award
Description: This award honors a graduate student or postdoctoral scholar who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of transgender health through scholarship, research, curriculum development, policy, or has demonstrated exemplary service to the WPATH.


Nominees for Student Contribution Award: Please feel free to nominate graduate student(s) currently enrolled in a graduate program, or recently graduated student(s) who have made contributions in transgender-related program areas such as medicine, law, the social sciences, and other academic and applied disciplines, the practice of which contribute to the well-being of transgender, and gender-nonconforming individuals, and to the field of transgender health.
 

Nominations Must Include*:

  • completed nomination form
  • short bio of the nominee (100 - 200 words)
  • rationale for their nomination (one or two sentences)
  • nominee’s contact information (email address and/or phone number)

*Incomplete Nominations will not be considered.

Award Presentation:

Award recipients and nominees will be notified directly by WPATH. Awards will be presented live during the WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium.
Award recipients will be given complimentary meeting registration.
Award recipients will have the opportunity to accept the award and present a short acceptance speech.
2024 award recipients will receive a monetary gift as well as a plaque commemorating their win.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 2024 WPATH GOLD MEDAL

The WPATH Gold Medal is the most prestigious honor awarded by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). The WPATH Gold Medal is awarded once every two years at the WPATH Biennial Scientific Symposium if an eligible application and awardee is selected.

WPATH Gold Medals are awarded to an individual(s) or an organization(s), who have made a major contribution to global transgender health.

The criteria for the WPATH Gold Medal is presented below:

  • The nomination should be submitted by a minimum of 4 WPATH members in good standing, each who have been a WPATH member for a minimum of 10 years.
  • The recommendations are submitted to the President, Secretary and Executive Director through the online application.
  • The WPATH Gold Medal Award Committee encourages diverse representation, inclusive of a variety of disciplines, countries, personal background and gender.
  • The nominees should have the following characteristics:
    1. Be a WPATH member in good standing.
    2. Been working in the field of transgender health (in its broadest sense) for at least 10 years.
    3. Nominees are selected based on documented evidence of exceptional global achievement within the field of transgender health.

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) invites the submission of abstracts for Oral and Poster sessions as well as State-of-the-Art Symposia to be considered for presentation at the WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium.
 
The WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium “A Gender Diverse World in Global Unity will be held at the EPIC SANA Lisboa in Lisbon, PortugalSeptember 25-30, 2024 (Pre-Courses: September 25-26, 2024; Scientific Sessions: September 26-30, 2024.) We look forward to receiving your submission. The Symposium will be presented in both live and virtual formats, giving attendees multiple viewing options.
 
The WPATH 28th Scientific Symposium will be led by WPATH President Dr. Marci Bowers and Scientific Co-Chairs Dr. Müjde Özer and Dr. Thomas Satterwhite.
 
The WPATH 2024 Steering Committee and the WPATH Board of Directors will schedule a program that will offer a great educational experience with a variety of viewing options. Our goal remains the same; to promote evidence-based care, education, research, public policy, and respect in transgender health.

  • Disclosures for ALL authors/co-authors are required within the submission form, as are their institutions, city, state, country, etc.
  • Abstracts are reviewed and approved for inclusion in the program by the WPATH 2024 Abstract Review Committee, the WPATH 2024 Steering Committee, and the WPATH Board of Directors.
  • ALL presenting authors are required to register/pay for their attendance at the meeting (full meeting in-person registration, based on your membership status).
  • Complete instructions for presentations will be provided with your notification of acceptance.
