Dear WPATH Members and Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to inform you that the GenderCOS Genital Gender Surgery project is available for your participation.
The GenderCOS is an international consensus study that will shape and strengthen future clinical research on genital gender surgery by creating a standardized set of outcomes for both feminizing and masculinizing genital gender affirming surgery. To be able to make these sets representative, it requires the participation of experts by experience and experts by profession.
The GenderCOS study is going to develop lists of the most important outcomes of genital gender surgery. These lists are called Core Outcome Sets (COS). All future researchers have to measure and report the core outcomes in the same way, allowing for easy comparison.
The GenderCOS study aims to improve research on genital gender surgery. Right now, studies on this topic report a lot of different outcomes, and don’t use the same ways to measure these. This makes it difficult to compare surgical techniques and procedures. Fair comparison is helpful when considering which surgery best matches the wishes and expectations.
Your input coming from personal or professional experience can help making sure that the outcomes in the COS are relevant and meaningful for those involved in the decision-making on surgery. Learn more and sign up for online participation at www.gendercos.org!
The GenderCOS study protocol has been published in the International Journal for Transgender Health and is Open Access – available to download
