USPATH 2021 Plenary Speaker Highlight: Dr. Elle Lett
Elle Lett, MBiostat, MA, PhD, is a Black, transfemme and non-binary, statistician-epidemiologist and MD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania. They are currently a postdoctoral fellow in statistical epidemiology at the Penn Medicine Palliative and Advanced Illness and Research (PAIR) Center and a Senior Fellow at the Center for Applied Transgender Studies. They have three active research arms:
1) intersectional approaches to health for ethnoracial minoritized subpopulations within the transgender community
2) structural racism and the health impacts of state-sanctioned violence and the carceral system on Black Americans and
3) prediction modeling and algorithmic fairness.
They hold a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Harvard College, master’s degrees in Biostatistics and Statistics from Duke University and The Wharton School, respectively, and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. They plan to pursue residency training in Emergency Medicine and use health services research and social epidemiology to motivate policy changes that help achieve health equity in the United States.
