USPATH Board Statement - Town Hall 2019

Subject: USPATH Board Statement - Town Hall 2019
Date: October 11th 2019

The USPATH Board thanks the Community Rapporteurs (Dorcas Adedoja, Gaines Blasdel, Nova Bradford and Lotus Đào) and Community Liaison Londyn Smith-De Richelieu, for their efforts in the facilitation of the Town Hall at the 2019 USPATH Scientific Symposium. The goal of the Town Hall was to provide an opportunity for the current Board, who were not in place at the 2017 meeting, to listen to the perspectives and concerns of members of the community, in response to feedback about the process and transparency received at the inaugural 2017 USPATH conference.

Exchanges during the meeting highlighted unconscious biases and a need for the Board to be more intentional around issues of race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. The Board recognizes the role unconscious bias plays in the concerns raised by the community; we feel strongly about making the organization more inclusive and responsive, and grounded in an anti-racist framework. We are now working on an action plan to address the concerns raised, and we will be reporting back to the membership and community on the outcome of this work as well as the steps we intend to take in response.

We would like to thank all those who participated in the Town Hall. We have heard your concerns and hope to earn your trust in addressing them.
